I was recently requested as a co-conspirator on some magic (I of course mean that in the most affectionate and cheeky of ways). The request was to hold space, light a candle, send out energy to assist and protect someone in their journey to being single and free of any strongholds being placed on them by their ex. Plans were to be made through direct group message. The request was simple. Could I have kept it simple? Sure. But I was excited to be a part of something that I felt was so worthy of my time, attention, and energy — the safety of a friend. So there I was asking questions and just flying into it and I was not alone in my extra efforts. Soon we were organizing ideas on colours and crystals and sharing pictures of our little candle burning vigil set ups. Some went wild (me) and some others kept it simple. There was no judgement and all were happy to assist. Five women (including the intended), a mix of friends and perfect strangers. It’s always so amazing to me when people can just come together and do something like this. We all did our own style and no one judged anyone else for their choices. This to me is the real magic. Magic gives people the opportunity to feel helpful to other people. It brings them together and it holds space for someone in need when they are struggling to do it by themselves. It might seem like a little thing to some, lighting a candle and having intentions. Even just knowing that someone is holding space for you somewhere (we were all in our respective homes) let’s you know that YOU are important and your feelings and needs are valid, that is powerful stuff in and of itself. Any other energy work that finds its way into the universe to prevail over a yucky exes is just icing on the cake!

Green Candle (as her assets were under duress) anointed with Nettle oil.

Chamomile, Clove and Alfalfa.

In a color the intended identifies with a chain of comfort and the ability to protect themselves with the energy I send them.

(teeny tiny side note: a representation of the ex is surrounded in wormwood and bound in a bottle now living in the freezer… I usually play nice, but I promise this man is ickiest ick you could possibly imagine and should be in jail if the most sensitive of subjects on Law and Order: SVU has taught me anything)
